Harley Davidson decided to effectively reinvent the Sportster for 2022 by transforming it into a more powerful and radical looking motorcycle. The new 2022 Harley Davidson Sportster S series starts with a cool and aggressive look that will appeal to all Harley Davidson riders especially the younger generation of riders. In this process, the new Sportster S became the second model to implement the Revolution Max 1250T motor.
It was time for Harley Davidson to update the Sportster lineup of motorcycles that has been around since 1957. The Sportster has been the longest-running and most affordable model in Harley-Davidson’s motorcycle lineup.

The new 2022 Harley Davidson Sportster S has made significant advances towards performance, it is fueled by a V-Twin 1250cc displacement motor with a bore and stroke of 4.13” (105mm) x 2.83” (72mm) and it’s capable of 150 horsepower with 94 ft.-lbs. The new Revolution Max 1250 engine was assembled at the Harley-Davidson Pilgrim Road Powertrain Operations facility in Wisconsin.
The Revolution Max 1250T V-twin motorcycle engine comes with several changes. It features double overhead camshafts and liquid-cooling. These changes also include smaller valves and ports, a different combustion chamber shape and matching new pistons, new velocity stacks, different camshaft profiles and appropriate tuning of the Variable Valve Timing system. Harley-Davidson has announced this engine will eventually come in sizes ranging from 500cc to 1250cc.
Exhaust
One of the features that really stands out on the 2022 Harley Davidson Sportster S is the High Mount Exhaust system. This style of exhausts was inspired by the glory days of H-D flat track racing. These aggressive looking exhaust pipes are crafted from corrosion-resistant 304 series stainless steel. The newly designed exhaust is also engineered to deflect exhaust heat away from the rider’s legs and tail section of the motorcycle.
Electronics and Instrumentation
The 2022 Harley Davidson Sportster S offers newly designed instrumentation and electronics which has classic style meeting modern technology. All the information you need to know while riding is housed in a Bluetooth equipped 4” round thin-film transistor LCD display. This information includes digital gauge indicators, ride modes, along with turn-by-turn navigation with the Harley Davidson app. The functionality displayed in the newly designed 4” round display is accessed via buttons on the left- and right-hand handlebar controls.
Chassis
One of the more unique and advanced features of the 2022 Harley Davidson Sportster S is that Harley Davidson has created a Dual-Purpose Powertrain. This means that the Revolution Max 1250T is a structural component of the motorcycle’s chassis. This new design eliminates a traditional frame therefore significantly reducing the overall weight while maintain handling precision. When riding your new Sportster you will feel the performance, with a low center of gravity and a super rigid chassis.
Ride Modes
The new Harley Davidson Sportster S motorcycle offers the rider 3 pre-programmed Ride Modes (Sport, Road, and Rain) you can even create your own custom ride mode. These new ride mode options will tune your bike with a specific combination of power delivery, engine braking, Cornering Enhanced Antilock Braking and Cornering Enhanced Traction Control System settings.
New Colors
The 2022 Harley-Davidson Sportster S will be available in three colors: Vivid Black, Midnight Crimson and Stone Washed Pearl White. The Midnight Crimson and Stone Washed Pearl White colors will add an additional $350 to the MSRP. Harley Davidson also offers a wide variety of new accessories so you can customize your new ride.
